Magalia: Drunk Driver Caused Fatal Head-On Collision

At around 4:40 p.m. yesterday, a drunk driver caused a fatal head-on collision in Magalia. While traveling south on Skyway Road, 23-year-old Jordan Fischbach swerved into the northbound lane and struck an 80-year-old motorist. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics transported Fischbach to a local hospital to receive treatment for moderate injures, and he was later arrested for felony driving under the influence, explains a California personal injury lawyer.

Butte County accounted for 1,065 of the fatal and injury motor vehicle traffic collisions that occurred throughout the state in 2009, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety. That year, there were 10.3 percent fewer traffic deaths than the previous year in the state. Nationwide, 33,808 people were killed in traffic accidents, a 9.7 percent decrease from 2008 and the lowest number recorded since 1950, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
